Genetically Modified Purple Tomato Seeds Now Available to Home Gardeners in the United States

Norfolk Healthy Produce announced the online sale in the United States of seeds of its first product, the genetically modified purple tomato with high antioxidant power. The seeds will only be available to home gardeners in the United States, where the biotechnology regulatory process has been completed through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration and the Food and Drug Administration. The new tomato variety contains purple antioxidants called anthocyanins, which are also found in blueberries, blackberries and eggplant. Norfolk tomatoes are the only varieties whose flesh and skin contain purple antioxidants, thanks to biotechnology that combined tomatoes with two genes from the edible snapdragon flower.

The first variety is an indeterminate cherry tomato and can be grown with the same gardening methods as other indeterminate varieties. A pack of 10 high-quality purple tomato seeds costs 20 US dollars.
