George achieves his best score with 37, Leonard adds 22 and Clippers beat Grizzlies, 128-119

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Paul George scored a season-high 37, Kawhi Leonard added 22 points and the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Memphis Grizzlies, 128-119, on Friday.

George made 12 of his 18 shots, including 7 of 10 from 3-point range, in his sixth game of the season with at least 30 points. Leonard, who signed a three-year contract extension Wednesday, finished 10-for-16 from the field.

Amir Coffey contributed 13 points, making all six of his attempts, and the Clippers shot 55% from the field.

Jaren Jackson Jr. led Memphis with 21 points, and Xavier Tillman finished with 20 to go along with nine rebounds. David Roddy totaled 17 points.

Desmond Bane scored 15 points for the injury-depleted Grizzlies before leaving in the third quarter following injuring his left ankle while driving to the basket.

Just following Bane left, the Clippers extended their lead to 23 points.

The Clippers’ latest success – winning eight of nine games – has placed them in fourth place in the Western Conference.

Memphis continues to deal with an injury-laden season. Their leading scorer Ja Morant, who was suspended 25 games at the start of the season for twice displaying a weapon on social media, underwent surgery on his right shoulder on Thursday, ending his season.

Immediately followingward, the team announced that his replacement, point guard Marcus Smart, injured his right middle finger and will be reevaluated in six weeks. Both were part of the half-dozen Memphis players ruled out due to injury once morest Los Angeles.
