Government expedited transfer of medication for administration to young man with leukemia

Asuncion, IP Agency.– Using the presidential plane, the Vice Minister of Health, Santiago García, traveled this Friday to Buenos Aires, Argentina, from where he sent to Paraguay the medicine to be supplied to a patient with leukemia hospitalized at the Social Security Institute.

At 7:30 p.m. Paraguayan time, Vice Minister García received the medicine at Ezeiza Airport, Argentina, from representatives of the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, the Ministry of Health reported.

The health authority traveled on the plane of the President of the Republic, to expedite the transfer of the medicine that is not sold in the country and that comes from Europe.

After completing customs and immigration procedures, the Vice Minister immediately returned to provide treatment to the patient who is being treated at the health center.

“The Ministry of Health has made every possible effort, with the intervention of Vice President Pedro Alliana, in charge of the Presidency of the Republic, to be able to use the presidential plane to ensure that this medication arrives much more quickly to Asunción, so that this patient can be medicated and hopefully have the hopeful result that we all have,” said Vice Minister García.

“Life is a priceless and unique treasure,” said the Vice President of the Republic when reporting on the efforts made.

The 17-year-old girl with leukemia will receive the necessary immunotherapy treatment after being awarded the supply of the drug. This decision has been part of the efforts of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare (MSPBS) to ensure access to the specialized treatment that the patient requires.

The Ministry received a court order to acquire the specific medication for the young woman’s immunotherapy.

The need for this medicine, which is not available in the country and lacks sanitary registration in Paraguay, prompted the MSPBS to speed up the corresponding procedures for its importation.
