Sumatra Reels from Devastating Floods: Government Mobilizes Relief Efforts
Jakarta, Indonesia – Severe flooding across the Indonesian island of Sumatra has triggered a large-scale humanitarian crisis, prompting the government to rapidly deploy resources for rescue and relief. Widespread power outages and disruptions to fuel supplies are compounding the challenges faced by affected communities.
The hardest-hit areas include Aceh province, where at least four villages have been completely wiped out, according to Governor Nova Iriansyah. The Indonesian Air Force has begun airlifting critical aid, delivering 20 tons of supplies to flood-stricken regions. This includes essential provisions for those displaced and in urgent need.
“We are prioritizing the delivery of food, clean water, and medical supplies to those most affected,” stated a spokesperson for the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB).
