Grupo Semana and the newspaper El Heraldofrom Barranquilla, signed a memorandum of understanding “to acquire 100 percent of the shares of the Barranquilla newspaper.”
Simultaneously, Semana and El Heraldo published the two-paragraph news item stating that “After signing the document, the parties agreed on the main parameters of this eventual purchase by Grupo Semana.”
The media do not provide more information regarding the negotiation that ends following several months of negotiation.
Local groups also aspired to acquire the 90-year-old newspaper.
Currently El Heraldo belongs to four traditional families of Barranquilla Fernández, De la Rosa, Pumarejo and Gieseken.
