This brings the number of infected people in the 300,000-resident territory to 328, authorities said. Twenty-seven of them have been registered in Saint-Georges de l’Oyapock, on the border with Brazil, where 119 cases are now confirmed.
The number of people infected with the virus has increased by 128% over the last 14 days (144 cases identified on May 10). “We are moving more and more towards stage 3 of the epidemic,” said Dr. Mirdad Kazanji, director of the Institut Pasteur in Cayenne, which performs the majority of screening tests in Guyana.
