During the installation ceremony, held at the Inspection Générale of the Ministry, Prime Minister Fils-Aimé emphasized the critical role of education in Haiti’s future. “You take the reins of a strategic sector at the heart of national priorities,” Fils-Aimé stated, according to reports. “The Haitian school must be a space of knowledge, discipline, equity, and hope. It must train competent, responsible citizens deeply attached to republican values.”
Dr. Déméro, a professor, pastor, and specialist in educational leadership, outlined a vision for transforming the Haitian education system. He announced a plan encompassing fifteen key projects, focusing on areas including educational governance and administration, multilingualism, professional training, and digital innovation. Dr. Déméro brings over three decades of experience in education to the role. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of the Virgin Islands and has served as a professor at the Institut Universitaire de Formation des Cadres (INUFOCAD) and the State University of Haiti’s Faculty of Ethnology. Beyond his academic appointments, Dr. Déméro is a member of CONASTI (Commission Nationale de la Science, de la Technologie et de l’Innovation), where he contributes to strategic planning for the country’s scientific and technological development. His appointment has been widely viewed as a positive step towards addressing long-standing challenges within Haiti’s education system.
In his address following the installation, Dr. Déméro stated, “The time is for leadership, innovation, and change. My vision is clear: to transform the Haitian school so that it is not only a place for transmitting knowledge, but an engine of social and economic mobility.”
