Indio, California is set to host another major music festival this fall, as Goldenvoice, the company behind Coachella and Stagecoach, announced Head Trip, a new event dedicated entirely to electronic dance music. The festival, slated for October 10 and 11 at the Empire Polo Club, will feature performances from some of the biggest names in EDM, including Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia, and Skrillex.
The announcement comes as Goldenvoice continues to expand its festival offerings beyond its flagship events. Head Trip represents the third iteration of the promoter’s “trip” model, which focuses on a curated lineup of headlining artists on a single stage, eliminating set time conflicts for attendees. This approach debuted in 2016 with Desert Trip, featuring classic rock legends, and continued in 2023 with the metal-focused Power Trip.
Festival passes go on sale at 11 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday, March 13. Prospective attendees must pre-register at headtripindio.com to access ticket sales. General Admission (GA) passes start at $399, while VIP passes are priced at $799.
The lineup for Head Trip is stacked with prominent DJs and electronic music acts. Saturday’s performances include Calvin Harris, Under Construction (Fisher + Chris Lake), Peggy Gou B2B Four Tet, Seth Troxler B2B Ben Sterling. Sunday will feature Swedish House Mafia, Skrillex, Dom Dolla B2B Kettama, The Blessed Madonna, and DJ Harvey.
Immersive Experience with Sunflower Sound System
Beyond the main stage lineup, Head Trip will likewise feature the U.S. Debut of the “Sunflower Sound System,” designed by Floating Points. According to a press release, the system is housed within a dome tent acoustically treated with mycelium paneling and adorned with original artwork by Josephine Chime. The setup boasts 10 unique speaker stacks designed to deliver an immersive audiophile experience, with Floating Points and special guests scheduled to DJ throughout the weekend.
Building on Goldenvoice’s “Trip” Festival Model
Goldenvoice first tested the “trip” festival format with Desert Trip in October 2016, attracting a massive crowd to the Empire Polo Club for performances by Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Neil Young, The Who, and Roger Waters. The demand was so high that a second weekend was quickly added. The success of Desert Trip paved the way for Power Trip in 2023, which showcased a lineup of metal giants like Guns N’ Roses, Iron Maiden, and Metallica, despite a last-minute lineup change when Ozzy Osbourne was replaced by Judas Priest.
The City of Indio approved a decades-long extension of its development agreement with Goldenvoice in 2021, securing the Empire Polo Club as the home of Coachella and other Goldenvoice festivals through at least 2050. The agreement allows for up to five major music events annually, with a maximum attendance of 125,000 people.
Attendees can expect a similar festival experience to Coachella and Stagecoach, with free parking available on-site starting at 1 p.m. Both days. Car camping passes are available for $129 each, and official hotel packages combining festival passes with local lodging can be purchased at hospitality.headtripindio.com. Details regarding “Befores and Afters” events are forthcoming.
As Goldenvoice continues to innovate within the festival landscape, Head Trip signals a clear commitment to serving the growing demand for electronic music experiences. The festival’s focus on a curated lineup and immersive sound systems aims to provide a unique and unforgettable weekend for EDM fans.
The launch of Head Trip underscores Goldenvoice’s long-term investment in the Indio festival grounds and its continued role as a major player in the live music industry. Further details regarding the festival experience, including stage layouts and art installations, are expected to be released in the coming months.
