Health center: strengthening the regional offer

Quebec’s Saint-Germain Est Welcomes Ambitious New Health Center, ‘Pôle Santé’

Quebec City, QC – A significant development is underway in Quebec’s healthcare landscape. The Laser ProVue clinic has relocated to a larger facility on rue Saint-Germain Est, marking the first step in the creation of ‘Pôle Santé’ – a comprehensive health center designed to bring a range of medical professionals under one roof. This expansion isn’t just about more space; it’s about preserving specialized care and prioritizing a human-centered approach to wellness. This is breaking news for Quebec residents seeking accessible, personalized healthcare options.

From Laser Clinic to Integrated Health Hub: A Vision Takes Shape

The story begins in 1999 with Dr. Raymond Simard’s founding of Laser ProVue. In 2005, optometrist Dr. Pascal Soucy joined the practice. Fast forward to 2018, and Dr. Simard faced a crossroads: retirement or closure. Dr. Soucy saw an opportunity. “I offered to buy his office, provided that there was time for me to find ophthalmologists to take over,” he explains. This led to the arrival of Dr. Étienne Vachon-Joannette, specializing in surgery, followed by Dr. Steven Gagnon two years later. Dr. Simard’s retirement paved the way for a clinic poised for growth.

However, growth demanded space. The original 3,000 square foot clinic quickly became restrictive. “At 3,000 square feet, it was difficult to have more than one professional working at a time,” Dr. Soucy noted. The search for a new location led him to real estate entrepreneur Miguel Perreault, and together they acquired the current building, envisioning a dedicated health center.

Preserving Specialized Care & Combating ‘Industrial’ Medicine

The driving force behind the acquisition and expansion wasn’t simply business; it was a commitment to patient care. Dr. Soucy’s primary concern was ensuring continued access to specialized services, particularly refractive surgery, within the region. “Otherwise, people would have had to go to Quebec [City] for laser or lens surgery. There, it’s more industrial, less personalized,” he stated. He draws a compelling analogy: “I often say: McDonald’s is a restaurant, but it’s not Slate. Here, we want to offer a human service, close to people.”

Evergreen Insight: The trend towards specialized, patient-centric care is gaining momentum as individuals increasingly prioritize personalized experiences in all aspects of their lives, including healthcare. This shift challenges the traditional, often impersonal, models of large-scale medical facilities.

Pôle Santé: A Growing Ecosystem of Wellness

Today, the clinic boasts 9,000 square feet and is spearheaded by Drs. Soucy, Vachon-Joannette, and Gagnon. A further 3,000 square feet remains available on the second floor, with plans to attract complementary health professionals. “It’s a beautiful place. A dental clinic or polyclinic could very well be set up there,” Dr. Soucy shares. “We are looking for professionals who share our values: an empathetic and compassionate approach. When you consult a health professional, you are vulnerable. This is what we want to respect here.”

The team anticipates filling the remaining space within two to three years, creating a truly integrated health hub. The name ‘Pôle Santé’ – Health Center – intentionally reflects this holistic vision.

This expansion represents more than just a new building; it’s a commitment to accessible, personalized healthcare in Quebec, and a model for how medical practices can evolve to meet the changing needs of their communities. The Pôle Santé project signals a positive step towards a more compassionate and comprehensive healthcare experience, ensuring residents have access to specialized services without having to travel long distances.
