Heating: is the increase in the price of wood pellets justified?

Like many French people, Corinne and her husband decided five years ago to replace their oil-fired boiler with a wood-burning stove. The couple then hoped to save a lot of money. Except that for the past year, the price of heating pellets has continued to increase: +20% since May 2021. So inevitably, their heating bill is also rising.

“We were at more than 2000 euros a year with fuel oil, we had gone to 800 euros a year. Currently, we order around four tonnes of wood pellets a year, and the price per tonne is around 280- 300 euros. We will therefore return to the same level as when we changed our boiler”, deplores this resident of Arlanc, in Puy-de-Dôme. An additional cost difficult to accept, especially since the couple lives 600 meters from two pellet factories and in a forest region. “With us, it feels like everything is on site, so everything should theoretically be a little easier and a little cheaper. Anyway, that’s how we imagined it…“, she continues.
