Record-breaking torrential rain in Zhengzhou, the capital of central China’s Henan province, killed 12 people and evacuated 100,000 residents, Xinhua News Agency reported on the 21st.
The night before, water filled the subway in Zhengzhou, trapping more than 500 passengers, and rescue operations were carried out, but 12 people were found dead and 5 injured.
Zhengzhou City has suspended all subway lines.
In Zhengzhou, 201.9 mm of torrential rain fell for an hour from 4 to 5 pm the day before.
The average accumulated precipitation from 6 PM on the 18th to 0 PM on the 21st reached 449 mm, and there were many areas with more than 500 mm of rain.
Local authorities have upgraded their flood response posture to Level 1.
