Shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday followingnoon, a Swiss army truck drove along Kasernenstrasse in the direction of Winkeln SG. In the winding section of road in the Walke area, the driver lost control of his vehicle. The truck went over the oncoming lane into the rising meadow edge and then overturned on its side, as the AR cantonal police announced in a communiqué.
The truck skidded on the wet road and came to rest across the road, blocking it completely. The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. His passenger was uninjured.
There was property damage of several tens of thousands of francs. The section of road had to be closed for several hours to recover the vehicle. The accident is recorded by members of the military police, with the support of the canton police of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. The military judiciary is responsible for investigating how the accident happened.
