Heroic Deer Finds Sanctuary: A Heartwarming Story from the Belgian Province of Antwerp

A deer in bad shape went by himself to an animal shelter which opened its doors to the public in the Belgian province of Antwerp.

Employees of the Kapellen bird and wildlife sanctuary noticed the presence of the mammal hanging around in front of the door of the animal sanctuary.

The deer arrived on Monday by a dirt road that connects the refuge to the forest located a few hundred meters away, according to what Belgian media 7Sur7 reported.

“He was completely blind and had a gaping wound between his antlers full of thick maggots,” the shelter director posted on Facebook Thursday.

Taken care of by a veterinarian called urgently, the suffering mammal had to be euthanized inside the refuge which did not expect such a visit.
