A major figure in the recent history of African football following having managed the national teams of Zambia, Angola, Ivory Coast and Morocco, French coach, Hervé Renard, is back in Africa to celebrate this new African Cup of Nations, which opens this Saturday evening in Abidjan. Asked by beIN Sports, he did not hide his happiness at returning to a country and a continent that he knows perfectly. As a reminder, the current coach of Les Bleues won the trophy, so dreamed of by millions of African supporters, twice in 2012 with Zambia and in 2015 with Ivory Coast:

“It’s magnificent, I haven’t experienced this stadium which is brand new. We attended a magnificent opening ceremony like the Ivory Coast. This African Cup will be a total success and I wish them to go as far as possible. It’s going to be magical, we might see it on the road leading to the stadium. They were waiting for the bus, they stayed two hours before the bus passed. It’s going to be magical now. We must hope that Ivory Coast performs well. With Jean-Louis Gasset I think everything will go well, so we keep our fingers crossed for them. And let the party continue!”
