Marburg – The 1st Fulda Judo Club is celebrating a remarkable achievement after its young athletes dominated the Hessian Individual Championships held in Marburg this past weekend. The club secured an impressive eight medals across the U15, U18, and U21 age groups, earning qualification for the prestigious Southwest German Individual Championship in Wörrstadt, Rhineland-Palatinate.
Michelle Müller Shines with Double Victory
Sixteen-year-old Michelle Müller was the standout performer, claiming gold in the U21 category and a silver medal in the U18 division. Her U21 victory came against Katharina Riehl (Turngemeinde Hochheim) and Johanna Wint (Tamanegi Griesheim), showcasing her skill with armbar and Seoi-Nage techniques. In the U18 competition, she narrowly lost to Franziska Schiemann (Kim Chi Wiesbaden) after a hard-fought battle.
Multiple Medalists and Strong Performances
The success wasn’t limited to Müller. Thore Menges (U15) and Rabea Hohmann (U21) both secured silver medals, while Ivan Fedorenko (U18) and Maximilian Michel (U18) too finished as runners-up. Lea Rudolphi (U18) and Ben Hartmann (U18) added to the medal haul with bronze finishes. Five athletes – Max Schlaudraff, Antoni Regula, Michal Szymanski, Julius Michel, and Timo Teuber – achieved commendable fifth-place finishes.
A Weekend of Intense Competition
Over 340 young athletes from across Hesse competed in Marburg, battling for medals and the chance to advance to the Southwest German Individual Championship. The Fulda club’s success is a testament to the dedication of its athletes and the coaching of Mike Thiel. Menges’ path to the final included victories over Aleandro Calciano, Gabriel Taranenko, and Davor Brandic Espinosa, before a close contest against Daniel Gupalo. Fedorenko overcame Aaron Rottmann and Felix Lammel before facing Loris Dutenhöfer, while Michel defeated Alexander Abdratschew and Mikail Yilmaz, even facing a teammate in the semi-finals.
