Hammond, Louisiana – Southeastern Louisiana university (SLU) Athletics is gearing up for a dynamic week, August 18-24, 2025, filled with competitive events and spirited community gatherings. Fans will have numerous opportunities to support their Lion and Lady Lion teams and participate in longstanding campus traditions.
Soccer Spotlight
The Southeastern women’s soccer program will be in action both on the road and at home this week. They begin with a challenging away game against Troy University in Troy, Alabama, on Friday at 6 p.m. Central Time. The team,currently holding a record of 0-1,will then return to Strawberry Stadium on Sunday at 6 p.m. Central Time to face Jackson State. Both soccer matches will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Volleyball Prepares for Season
the two-time defending Southland Conference regular season champion Lady Lion volleyball team is preparing for the upcoming season with their annual Green and Gold intrasquad scrimmage. This preseason contest will take place on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the University Center,giving fans a first look at the team’s talent and strategies.
Campus Spirit Events
SLU will host two major events aimed at building excitement for the 2025-26 athletic season. Strawberry Jam, exclusively for Southeastern students, is scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. This event will feature performances by the Spirit of the Southland band, national champion cheerleaders, and the Lionette dance team, and also appearances from athletes representing soccer, football, and indoor volleyball.The first 1,000 students attending will receive a free 2025 Gameday in Hammond, America t-shirt and enjoy complimentary food.
On Saturday, the community is invited to Lionpawlooza at Cate Square starting at 3 p.m. This pep rally will include performances by the Spirit of the Southland band and spirit squads, along with appearances from football and indoor volleyball players. The event will coincide with the Hammond Downtown Advancement District’s Hot August stroll.
