Lockdown clearly has internet trolls reaching new lows because Hilary Duff had to make it clear at the weekend that she wasn’t part of a child trafficking ring. Yes, you read that correctly.
If that sounds completely ridiculous, imagine how the star “Lizzie McGuire” felt when she woke up on Saturday morning and saw her name on Twitter for trying to run her own 8-year-old son Luca.
It started when a Twitter user posted a clip from Duff’s recent Instagram stories, in which she posted a collection of family snapshots on a wall that contained a completely innocent photo of her naked son, which she censored with a sticker.
“Someone pointed out on Instagram that I did an act of him, which I did, so we covered that with stickers,” Duff said lightly in the video.
That was apparently enough for other people on the Internet to develop an unfounded theory – similar to the bizarre QAnon attacks against Oprah earlier this year – that Duff was somehow involved in child trafficking.
The “younger” star called the claim “disgusting” and hit back in a separate tweet.
Anyone who is bored right now, I know … but that’s really disgusting … whoever made this up and brought this garbage into the universe should take a break from his damn phone. Maybe get a hobby
– Hilary Duff (@HilaryDuff), May 23, 2020
“Anyone who is bored right now, I know … but that’s really gross …” she wrote on Twitter on Saturday morning. “Anyone who has thought it up and brought this garbage into the universe should take a break from his damn phone. Maybe get a hobby. “
And in the event that the rejection wasn’t strong enough, a Duff representative blamed the rumor.
“Let me say this most strongly, it’s all a made-up disgusting internet lie created and trimmed by trolls and idiots. Hilary’s own contribution this morning is all that needs to be said on the subject, ”says the statement by E! News. “Everyone who knows Hilary knows exactly what a great mother she is, and that doesn’t require any further comment. If only people with so much time would use their energy to solve real problems in the world. “
Matthew Koma, Duff’s husband and father of their 1-year-old daughter Banks, retweeted Duff’s message for his own account.
After finishing the rumors, Duff’s weekend seemed to be back on track. Later on Saturday, the entire Duff clan gathered for “distant family photos,” according to their Instagram caption.
“It was nice to have an excuse to get dressed,” she wrote alongside a photo of herself and coma, adding that her daughter Banks said “an extra thank you for the lollipops as a bribe.”
Duff recently gave her son, whom she shares with ex-husband Mike Comrie, a sweet greeting on Instagram.
“Ugh … the skin, the blue eyes, the placement of the freckles, the best of all is the placement of his heart ♥ ️ my sweet sweet Luca,” she signed a photo of her son. “I love you all the way.”
