Hohen Neuendorf: More than 100 people evacuated because of a fire in a retirement home

The roof of a retirement home in Hohen Neuendorf (Oberhavel) caught fire on Wednesday followingnoon. According to the rescue workers, parts of the roof with an area of ​​600 square meters collapsed due to the fire.

All residents and employees, a total of 108 people, are safe, said a spokesman for the rbb24 Brandenburg control center. Accordingly, nobody was injured.

The evacuated people are currently being cared for by civil protection employees in a parking lot in four buses provided by Oberhavel Verkehrsgesellschaft.

According to the fire brigade control center, the alarm was received around 4:30 p.m. According to the fire department, 150 emergency services were still on site in the evening. The control center assumes that the operation will last into the night.

Because of the heavy smoke, the fire brigade had issued a hazard warning in the meantime. Residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed and to leave ventilation and air conditioning off.
