“How inflation and budget tightening led to a 52 million euro surplus in municipal accounts”

Despite many crises, Finance Director Christian Schmid was able to present the municipal council with a positive statement of accounts at last Wednesday’s meeting. Instead of an expected minus, a surplus of 52 million euros was achieved from the operative business in the past year. The result is thus 66 million euros better than budgeted. In addition, a positive cash flow of more than two million euros was achieved.

Inflation flushes money into the city treasury

However, an important reason for the windfall is also a crisis, namely inflation, which brings higher income to many communities, and most recently to the state of Upper Austria. According to the city, budget tightening also plays a role.
