Human remains found in a wooded area of Saint-Jean

The Saint John Police Department is investigating following the discovery of human remains in a heavily wooded area east of the port city.

The human skeletal remains were found Friday by a hiker in an area between Lakewood Heights and Golden Grove Road.

The walker marked the precise location of his macabre discovery before contacting the police who went to the scene shortly following 6 p.m.

The Forensic Identification Service also visited the scene and confirmed that the remains were human.

A thorough excavation of the site was carried out in collaboration with a forensic anthropologist.

The scene was subsequently secured by police until a more thorough search of the area might be carried out in conjunction with personnel from the River Valley and York Sunbury ground search and rescue teams.

On Sunday morning, St. John’s police were still asking the public to avoid this area to allow staff to complete their search and avoid contaminating the scene. This includes all ATV trails located in this sector.

Efforts to identify the human remains are now underway.

Anyone with information in this regard is asked to contact the Saint John Police Department at 1-506-648-3333 or Crime Stoppers.
