Breaking News: Hungary Launches Targeted Tourism Credit Programs, Balaton Sees Surge in Passengers

In a strategic move to boost economic recovery, the Hungarian government, through the Ministry of Economic Affairs, has announced the launch of new targeted credit programs specifically for the tourism industry. The initiative aims to provide much-needed financial support to businesses in the sector via the newly established Kisfaludy Tourism Credit Center (KTH).

Cheap Loans and Investment Solutions for Tourism Sector

The KTH START Credit Program, scheduled to begin in October, will offer cheapest loans and investment solutions designed with a deep understanding of the sector’s unique needs. This includes addressing liquidity challenges that stem from the industry’s inherent seasonality. The program includes highly attractive terms such as a fixed interest rate of just 3%, with no administrative fees and a grace period of up to one year before repayment begins. Loans will be available in the range of HUF 1 million to HUF 10 million, providing the necessary financial leverage for businesses to thrive.

The loan options will include a three-year operational loan and a five-year investment loan, providing flexible and tailored financial solutions designed to boost the tourism economy. Additional credit products are slated for release in 2026, further enhancing the array of options available to businesses in the sector.

Growth and Impact on Hungarian Economy

The tourism sector has been recognized for its significant contribution to Hungary’s GDP, responsible for 13% in the previous year, and supporting the livelihoods of over 400,000 families. The new credit programs are expected to spur further growth and resilience within the industry, ensuring its stability and prominence in the national economy.

Balaton Ferries Witness Passenger Numbers Climb

A simultaneous boost in tourist activity is evident in the rising number of passengers on Balaton ferries. The Bahart shipping company has reported a 7% increase in passenger numbers in June compared to the previous year, totaling 157,000 passengers. The number of bicycles carried has also increased by 5% to 71,000. Furthermore, tickets for families with children have seen a price drop of more than 10%, alongside a 10% reduction in bike ticket prices, making travel options more accessible and affordable.

The government’s proactive measures, coupled with favorable trends such as the rise in ferry passengers, signal a positive outlook for the tourism industry. As Hungary continues to bolster its support infrastructure, businesses and tourists alike stand to benefit from enhanced services and economic stability.
