Jamie Foxx Opens Up About Medical Crisis and Rediscovering His Faith

Jamie Foxx is opening up about the medical emergency that nearly cost him his life earlier this year.

A Silent Struggles

The acclaimed actor had been filming the upcoming Netflix comedy,
“Back in Action” with Cameron Diaz when he started experiencing debilitating headaches. Initially dismissing them as something minor, Foxx’s friends eventually persuaded him to seek medical attention.

The experience initially left him feeling unsatisfied. “What the fuck is that?” Foxx later remarked, feeling the doctor’s initial advice was inadequate. “I don’t know if you can leave Yelp reviews for doctors, but that’s half—”

His sister Deirdre Dixon knew something was wrong. Fortune smiled upon them, because the hospital Dixon rushed him to was nearby where he was filming. Some, “angels” she thought they were “Ya’ll saved my life just 400 yards away from here in Piedmont hospital. They put me back together again,” he later expressed, deeply grateful for their swift intervention.

A Life-Threatening Diagnosis

Foxx had collapsed. Doctors delivered the horrifying news to his sister: “If I don’t go in his head right now, we’re going to lose him.” The Oscar-winning actor was having a brain bleed, leading to a stroke.
Dixon, overwhelmed, knelt outside the operating room and prayed for hours.

Tunnel Vision

Solidarity with his colleagues, threw himself his sister, his faith was undeniably what got him through. After waking in
May, Foxx couldn’t believe he was in a wheelchair, clueless about how he had gotten there. It was luck that pulled through for the star.

Doctors revealed the road ahead wouldn’t be easy – recovery might be a possibility but was likely to be the “worst year of his life.”
He attempted to recalibrate this new life. Jokingly, he tried to keep his “pickle” private from his female nurse. “She had already been bathing me for a month and a half,” he later confessed.

The actor credits his recovery to renewed faith. “If I can stay funny, I can stay alive” became his mantra.

After the harrowing experience, Foxx said: “Your life doesn’t flash before your face. It was kind of oddly peaceful. I saw the tunnel. I didn’t see the light. I was in that tunnel, though. It was hot in that tunnel.” He also recounted his thoughts during the trial

“Shit, am I going to the wrong place in this motherfucker? Because I looked at the end of the tunnel, and I thought I saw the devil like, ‘Come on.’ Or is that Puffy [Sean Combs]? I’m fucking around.”

Foxx’s return to the stage marked aPinch yourself moment; He’s never truly left. As he fully embraces this new chapter, Foxx’s story is ultimately a testament to resilience, a steadfast faith and the power of humor to get you through even the darkest of times.
