I. Šimonytė discussed support for Ukraine and strengthening of cooperation with the President of Malta

“As members of the European Union family, we have a number of common challenges and issues to be resolved. The most important of them is Russia’s continued war once morest Ukraine and undisguised preparations for a long-term confrontation with the democratic world. Putin hopes that our strategic patience and will to support Ukraine will run out. We have to show that this is an ordinary calculation of it. Other scenarios will only encourage the aggressors to act even more”, I. Šimonytė is quoted in the Government’s report.

According to her, the reorientation of the Russian economy for war purposes indicates a disposition for a long-term war. According to the Prime Minister, Russia must be stopped in Ukraine, it is important to help this country achieve victory as soon as possible.

According to the report, Russia is involved in conflicts in African countries, it is trying to instrumentalize illegal migration in vulnerable regions of the world. It is noted that “with the instrumentalization of migration, which poses a threat to both Lithuania and Malta”, it is necessary to fight with solidarity efforts.

Cooperation between Lithuania and Malta in the economy, life sciences, renewable energy, and agriculture was also discussed at the meeting. The meeting also discussed the security situation in the Middle East.

A little earlier, the President of Malta met with the head of the country Gitan Nausėda.
