IAPA and AI condemn the murder of a journalist

MIAMI (EFE).— The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) yesterday condemned the kidnapping and subsequent murder of journalist Roberto Carlos Figueroa Bustos, in Mexico, and urged the authorities to conduct an “exhaustive investigation” and “end the cycle of impunity that characterizes crimes once morest reporters” in that country.

Figueroa Bustos, director and host of the digital media Acá en El Show, was kidnapped last Friday in Morelos, following dropping his daughters off at school.

“We urge the authorities to thoroughly investigate the crime until they find those responsible and bring them to justice, so that this case does not become another statistic of the impunity that surrounds the majority of crimes once morest journalists in Mexico,” he said in a statement by Roberto Rock, president of the IAPA.

“Just over a month before the general elections in Mexico, it is essential that local journalists can carry out their work without fear of physical reprisals,” said the president of the IAPA’s Committee on Freedom of the Press and Information. Amnesty International (AI) also condemned Figueroa’s murder. “We condemn the murder of journalist Roberto Figueroa Bustos, producer and host of ‘Acá en el Show’ in #Morelos,” the organization stated in a brief positioning in X.
