Two million people in Austria now use ID-Austria to complete official procedures online. After a pilot phase, regular operations began on December 5th, with ID-Austria replacing the previously widely used cell phone signature.
Since full operation on December 5th alone, there have been 182,000 changes or new issues, according to a statement from the Ministry of Finance.

By replacing the cell phone signature with ID Austria, Austria meets EU requirements.

To register with ID Austria, a smartphone is usually used on which biometric data such as a fingerprint is stored. If you don’t want that, you can use a FIDO token. This is a hardware key that can do without biometrics. When choosing a product, you have to make sure that it is supported by ID Austria.
