Kochi:The High Court asked the central government to consider implementing the guidelines of the National Highways Authority to allow vehicles to pass without paying toll to avoid traffic jams if the queue of vehicles at the toll plaza is more than 100 meters long. This was said by a division bench comprising of Justice Muhammad Mushtaq and Justice Shobha Annamma Eepan in an appeal filed by Nitin Ramakrishnan, a native of Palakkad, alleging that the delay in passing vehicles through the Paliekkara toll plaza in Thrissur is causing traffic congestion.

The petition was changed following the central government lawyer said that he would express his position on what can be done to facilitate the traffic through the toll plaza. The petitioner complains that vehicles have to wait for a long time at the toll plaza during peak hours.

The Division Bench opined that in the new age of technological advancement, the time has come for a change in all this. It was then suggested to consider the National Highway Authority’s guidance dated 24 May 2021.
