Iker Lecuona Steps in for Joan Mir at Assen GP – Latest Updates and News

Already at the end of April in Jerez, Iker Lecuona represented the injured Marc Márquez in the Repsol Honda works team, now the Superbike pilot will step into the breach for Joan Mir at the Assen GP next weekend.

“First of all, I want to wish Joan all the best in his recovery,” said the 23-year-old. “It’s an honor for me to join the team once more. I like the track at Assen and celebrated my first World Superbike podium there, hopefully we can have a good weekend like in Jerez.”

As a reminder, Lecuona benefited from the crashes of Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki) and Toprak Razgatlioglu (Yamaha) in his third place in heat two. The race was won at the time by Álvaro Bautista (Ducati), second was Andrea Locatelli (Yamaha).

However, it is not an ideal time to help out in MotoGP for the Honda rider. Lecuona himself missed the second race at Misano and also a Suzuka test following being rammed by Danilo Petrucci (Ducati). He was originally scheduled to return to the bike at the Donington Superbike meeting on June 30th.

“I’m still recovering a bit from the Misano crash so it will be a good test physically too,” admitted the Spaniard. “I’m fine, I have no complaints. I ride my bike a lot and train my stomach muscles so I don’t overload my hips.”
