In Italy, its region is one of the most affected by the coronavirus.
Vincenzo De Luca does not like Halloween, and even less in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. While the Naples region is experiencing an outbreak of infections, the governor of Campania announced on Friday the establishment of a curfew from 10 p.m. during the weekend of the party, report The Republic.
These celebrations are anyway “Some stupid American extravaganza that was imported” in Italy and a “Monument to imbecility”, launched in a video posted on Facebook, Vincenzo De Luca. The politician, member of the Italian Democratic Party (center left), is known for his populist diatribes in flowery language. He said he made the decision after being informed that some Italians were preparing to throw parties on Halloween night.
“The number of Covid-19 cases continues to grow”
“De Luca fears that in a week the virus will be transmitted from monster to monster and from witch to witch”, Write the Corriere della Sera. It must be said that for a few days, “The number of coronavirus cases continues to grow while the number of hospital beds […] available, they are constantly decreasing ”, underlines the Italian daily.
While Campania was largely spared by the first wave of Covid-19, the region is now one of the hardest hit in Italy. It has reached a critical stage as it has far fewer hospital beds, intensive care units and medical staff than other regions of similar size.
This is not the first time that Vincenzo de Luca has targeted Italian youth in one of his diatribes. A few months ago, the governor threatened to send police officers equipped with flamethrowers to disperse student parties organized during the pandemic, recalls the British daily The Independent.
