Brazilian Gil de Ferran (56) died of a heart attack in Florida. He won the Indianapolis 500 in 2003 and the CART championship in 2000 and 2001.

Gil de Ferran, who also had French nationality since he was born in Paris, had also worked in Formula 1. He had worked as sporting director of the BAR Honda team from 2005 to July 2007, then from July 2018 to 2021 in a similar position with McLaren. He returned to this team in 2023 as a consultant for the restructuring.
