Nobody comes to the Café am Heumarkt just for the apple strudel. It’s more because of the cake display case, which stands prominently in the room, has a life of its own like a pet and draws attention to itself with a rattling sound every few minutes. The display case, whose quirk has long been part of the inventory, dates back to the 1960s, when the coffee house was last renovated. Since then, almost nothing has changed in the facility.
