Inappropriate Breathalyzer Test for 11-Year-Old Girl in Ghent: The Last News Report

An 11-year-old girl had to take a breathalyzer test in Ghent following being involved in a road accident, according to a report from The last news confirmed by the Ghent police on Wednesday. The latter, however, recognized that it was “perhaps not appropriate” to have the child breathe and indicated that it was investigating the circumstances of this check.

In principle, the police automatically subject anyone involved in an accident with injuries to an alcohol test, whether or not there are signs of intoxication. “There isn’t really a threshold for age. It is in the interest of all parties to be clear on this matter. And blowing is less invasive than a blood test,” explains the Ghent police.

But in this case, the girl’s age was very young and the authorities recognize that in this case, it was probably inappropriate to carry out this examination.

Police apologized to the child and his parents and said they were available for an interview with social workers.
