Three doctors have been arrested for the death of a mother and a new-born child during maternity treatment at Thangam Hospital in Yakara, Palakkad. Doctors Priyadarshini, Nila and Ajith were arrested by South Police and released on bail. The action of the DySP of Palakkad came following the medical report came out that the death of the mother and child was due to medical malpractice. The medical board found that the doctors of Thangam Hospital were guilty of negligence in the death of Aishwarya, a native of Chittoor Thattamangalam, and her newborn baby. Trying to get the baby out with a vacuum caused a serious mistake. The baby died because the umbilical cord was entangled in the neck. Aishwarya’s death was due to bleeding following using a vacuum.

The medical report also states that the hospital authorities failed to inform relatives regarding the treatment. After the DMO handed over the report to the police, the doctors were interrogated in detail under the leadership of DySP. South Police recorded the arrest of Priyadarshini, Nila and Ajith, gynecologists of Thangam Hospital who treated Aishwarya. All three were released on bail. Aishwarya’s relatives said that the allegation that the doctors made a serious mistake proved to be true. The baby died following delivery on July 2. Aishwarya also died on the second day. A case was filed once morest Thangam Hospital under the Clinical Establishment Act following widespread protests. The Human Rights Commission has also announced an inquiry on its own. It was at this point that the doctor’s mistake became clear and the police moved to arrest him.
