This will be a relief for French taxpayers. According to our information, the government has decided to index the income tax scale to inflation in the Finance bill for 2024. This means that the thresholds of the different brackets will be revalued to take into account the general increase in prices, excluding tobacco, in 2023.

The exact level of indexation remains to be fixed, depending on INSEE inflation forecasts for 2023. But it should be around 4.9%. This is less than last year, when the scale was adjusted upwards by 5.4%, but much higher than all previous increases for at least a decade – when inflation remained in a corridor of 1 to 2% per year.
