After the flight was canceled for the second day in a row on Saturday, unrest broke out among passengers, the airline confirmed following reports on X (formerly Twitter).

The plane, a long-haul Airbus A330 registered OO-SFF, was due to leave Kinshasa for Brussels on Friday with some 230 passengers, but technical problems disrupted the operation. The flight was postponed to Saturday, but “unfortunately had to be canceled a second time,” said Joëlle Neeb, spokesperson for Brussels Airlines. “This second cancellation caused problems at Kinshasa airport.”

Not only was there unrest in the terminal, but a dozen passengers reportedly entered the tarmac to begin protesting near the plane. Airport security personnel had to intervene.

“We sincerely apologize to our passengers for the inconvenience caused by these cancellations,” added Mr. Neeb. “The safety of our passengers and crew remains our top priority at all times. All of our teams are doing their utmost to get our passengers to their final destination as quickly as possible.”

Travelers were offered hotel accommodation. Other Brussels Airlines flights to and from Kinshasa are not experiencing problems. (With Belga)
