Not even inside establishments are citizens safe from theft. This weekend, in the exclusive sector of Usaquén, north of Bogotá, a robbery occurred once morest a diner who was in a luxurious restaurant, ready to have lunch.
Taking advantage of the fact that the weather in the country’s capital was sunny, the citizen chose to take the opportunity to taste his food in the outdoor space that the restaurant allows.
But the enthusiasm he had for the sunny day was dampened when he was attacked by individuals who arrived on a motorcycle and ambushed him with a firearm in hand, according to radio media.
What caught the attention of the thieves regarding the man sitting in the restaurant was the watch, which looked luxurious and resembled a Rolex, a Swiss company that produces these jewels, considered to be of the highest quality and, on occasions, produced with gold alloys.

The robbery was reported to the authorities who are in the process of investigation, but from now on, following the first investigations, it is known that the watch was neither Swiss nor Rolex, but a replica of the valuable jewel.
Insecurity in Bogotá
Insecurity is one of the biggest challenges for the mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, and, in fact, it was one of the relevant points during the campaign for that position, the second most important in the country following the presidency of the Republic.
The mayor of the Capital District has already delivered his first assessment in relation to the issue that most worries Bogota residents, as revealed in various surveys.

After the first five weeks since Galán took office, security statistics were presented, according to which robbery is one of the phenomena that most burdens the capital’s residents, although homicide has decreased and extortion has increased.
According to the numbers presented in the District, homicide cases had a reduction of 23% in the first month of the year, compared to what happened in the same period of the previous year. However, in concrete terms, it implies that there were 72 events in the month.
But theft lurks
In relation to theft from people, it continues to be the headache of the capital’s residents. And that, according to the statistics presented by the district administration, there was a 20% reduction, with 8,814 complaints submitted and received by the authorities. The comparison was made with those that were recorded in January 2023, which were 11,040. To this, we must also add that many citizens do not report their cases.
