Berlin: India bagged medals at the 2023 Special Olympics World Games to be held in Berlin, Germany. The Olympics will be held from June 17 to 25. So far, India has won 55 medals in the Special Olympics, which features athletes from different corners of the world.
India won medals in athletics, weightlifting, roller skating, swimming and cycling. India bagged 15 gold, 27 silver and 13 bronze medals. India won three gold, one silver and one bronze from swimming pool alone. Indian dominance was evident in cycling as well. India won three gold, two silver and one bronze in this event.
The Special Olympics are different from the Paralympics. People with physical disabilities compete in the Paralympics. But in Special Olympics, people with disabilities participate. There are 32 events in Special Olympics. Anyone over the age of eight can participate in Special Olympics.
India has sent a large contingent to participate in the 2023 Special Olympics. The team consists of 176 athletes, 22 partners and 57 coaches. India competes in 16 events.
