[NOWnews今日新聞] It has been more than two years since the Russia-Ukraine war broke out. The war has also consumed a lot of manpower on both sides. In addition to mobilizing domestic reservists and looking for mercenaries, Russia is also rumored to be targeting foreigners. India recently confirmed that it had discovered a large-scale human smuggler group that lured young Indians to Russia with the promise of employment, but then forced them to participate in the Russia-Ukraine war.

According to “Reuters”, India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently announced that it had uncovered a human smuggler group that would lure young Indians to Russia in the name of high-paying employment or study abroad and send them to the battlefield.

India’s Central Bureau of Investigation said that so far, it has learned that regarding 35 men have been sent to Russia, and at least two men who served as “facilitators” in the Russian army were killed in frontline battles, the Indian Embassy in Russia confirmed One of the fatalities.

India’s Central Bureau of Investigation pointed out in a statement that these smuggler groups carried out recruitment activities in several states in India and used social platforms and local agents to target specific ethnic groups. Some of the victims were offered admission to dubious Russian “private universities”, and the other parties claimed to be offering free air tickets and visas to attract them to go.

India’s Central Bureau of Investigation said that Indian nationals trafficked to Russia were forced to undergo combat mission training and were deployed on the front lines of the Ukraine-Russia war. Some were seriously injured or even died in the war zone. Searches are currently being carried out in multiple locations, including the capital New Delhi and the financial capital Mumbai, to seize cash worth 50 million rupees as well as documents and electronic records. Several people involved in the case have been arrested and detained in different areas for interrogation.

Seven Indian men had previously recorded a video saying that they went to Russia on tourist visas but were forced to serve in the army, hoping to seek help from the Indian government to return home. The video immediately aroused heated discussions, and the Indian government immediately launched an investigation and contacted relevant personnel.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, thousands of people have died. The New Delhi government and the Moscow authorities have maintained close relations for decades. India refuses to condemn Russia for the Russia-Ukraine war and urges both sides to end the conflict through dialogue and other diplomatic means.
