Abu Dhabi | An Indian businessman in Abu Dhabi lost $20,000 (Dh73,461) in a cryptocurrency scam. The scammer came by mistaking himself as his former vendor. The businessman said that the fraud started in the month of March through a WhatsApp message.

The fraud was facilitated by a person who introduced herself as Nancy from a foreign phone number inquiring whether the products were still needed. He had bought industrial chemicals from Nancy for his previous business venture in Ras Al Khaimah. The fraud was done by believing that it was the same Chinese vendor.

The fraudster also said that he was running a good textile business in the Middle East, including the UAE. UAE legal authorities constantly advise caution on social media.
