Indian Contingent at Asian Games: Olympic Medalists and Record Holders Competing for Gold in Athletics, Weightlifting, Boxing, and Badminton

Hangzhou: Tomorrow is the opening ceremony of the Asian Games. Olympic and World Athletics Championship gold medalist Neeraj Chopra will lead the Indian contingent of 655. There are 35 male and 33 female athletes competing in athletics.

Olympic medalists weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, boxer Lovlina Borgohain, wrestler Bajrang Punia and badminton players H.S. Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth, P.V. Sindhu and Badminton will go for the gold in singles.

Asian record holder Tajinder Singh Tour, women’s heptathlon champion Swapna Burman and 1500m champion Jinson Johnson are also expected to win medals.

Some events at the Asian Games are also qualifying rounds for the 2024 Paris Olympics. There are six quotas in archery and ten in artistic swimming. Boxing has a quota of 34.

Both breaking and hockey have a quota of 10 in modern pentathlon. There are six quotas in sailing and two each in tennis and water polo.
