Ranchi: The Indian women’s hockey team is out to secure qualification for the Paris Olympics. The eight-team Olympic qualifying hockey tournament begins on Saturday in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Eight teams including the host India will compete. Three of these teams will qualify for the Olympics.
Germany (five) leads the world rankings. India (6), New Zealand (9), Japan (11), Chile (14), US (15), Italy (19) and Czech Republic (25) are the other teams in the ranking.
New Zealand, Italy, US India is in Pool B along with The Savita Punia-led Indian team will take on the US in their first match on Saturday. The final is on January 19.
