BANTAR Gebang in Bekasi, West Java, is the largest rubbish dump in the world. Every day, around 15,000 tons of waste from Jakarta is dumped at the Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST).
The mountain of rubbish at this location has reached its maximum height, namely 50 meters in an existing land area of 104 hectares. This height is equivalent to an 18-story building.
Based on data and research, the composition of waste at Bantar Gebang TPA includes organic waste: 43% of this component includes food waste, leaves and other organic materials. As much as 35% plastic and polyEthylene terephthalate (PET)). Plastic and PET are types of waste that can be recycled, while the rest is residual waste.
On the other hand, only a portion of the Indonesian delegation appointed by the Indonesian Government might participate in the Business Matching-Dubai International Chamber event. The theme of the event was Doing Business with Indonesia.
This event will be opened directly by the Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan, President & CEO of Dubai Chambers Mohammad Lootah P, General Chair of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin) Arsjad Rasjid, and UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia and ASEAN Abdulla Salem Obaid Salem Al Dhaheri. The event will take place on Monday (6/5) in Jakarta.
On the other hand, based on POV (Point of View) regarding the handling of inorganic waste such as plastic bottle waste, it can be sorted and recycled directly through the Plasticpay Platform to provide several benefits such as economic benefits.
One bottle = Rp. 56, as well as environmental benefits in the form of a carbon footprint that has been successfully reduced through the user dashboard on Plasticpay Apps. Apart from that, there are also benefits of increasing the added value of environmentally friendly raw materials by turning plastic bottles into downstream waste into raw materials such as felt, fur, dacron, geotextiles whose needs can be used in the fashion industry, construction industry and furniture industry.

Meanwhile, regarding the handling of organic waste in the form of food waste, Imam Pesuwaryantoro as the Indonesian Delegate at the Dubai International Chamber 2024 event created an Eco-Urban Farming Solution for Household Scale Food Estates such as using compost from the Bantar Gebang TPA, Bekasi with a composition of 3 kg maggot, bioactivator EM4 60 ml, enough clean water.
The manufacturing method is said to be very easy and can be implemented on a household scale, namely
1. Organic Food Waste and Maggots are put into a bucket
2. Brown sugar and Bio Activator in the form of EM4 dissolved in sufficient clean water.
3. The brown sugar and EM4 solution is put into a bucket containing food waste and maggots in a bucket that has been stirred.
4. After that, stir all the mixed ingredients until evenly mixed.
5. Stirring is done once a day for 14 to 28 days with an indication of success, namely the fertilizer looks like soil and is brown in color.

The implementation of compost fertilizer from home waste production can at least contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of DKI Jakarta residents’ waste being thrown to the Bantar Gebang Bekasi landfill.
Not only that, the surrounding yard area can be an alternative solution for growing productive plants such as cayenne pepper, cabbage and various other food plants.
“Therefore, let’s wisely manage waste from home by sorting waste and become part of the circular economy program to create a net zero emission Indonesia in 2050 and a golden Indonesia in 2045,” said Imam Pesuwaryantoro.
