Inflation in July at 9.3 percent: weekly shopping even more expensive by 19 percent – economic policy

Inflation in Austria reached 9.2 percent in July, the highest level since February 1975. According to Statistics Austria, the strongest price drivers were above all household energy and gastronomy, while fuel costs stagnated at a very high level. Consumer prices have also risen noticeably in the food sector, which is also clearly reflected in the price increase for weekly shopping. “The increase in the price of the mini-shopping basket, which includes food and services as well as fuel, was 19.1 percent in July, more than twice as high as general inflation,” explains Statistics Austria boss Tobias Thomas.
