Criterion Games (now EA Gothenburg) developed the sequel Need for Speed following EA gave Critetion the successor IP from Ghost Games’ NFS family of games (now EA Gothenburg).
Henderson pointed out that the reason for the new Need for Speed game has been relatively slow in development. because EA first commissioned Criterion to help develop Battlefield 2042.
EA is expecting Need for Speed by Criterion Games to release in September/October 2022.

The latest Need for Speed game is Heat, which was released in 2019. The game has received a lot of positive feedback from both fans and fans alike due to significant improvements from 2016’s Need for Speed and Payback. Heat is a title that many have praised for bringing the NFS franchise back in the right direction, though it’s not the best NFS game ever.
