O Instagram is finally releasing a native tool for users to let’s download Reels posted by others — in order to share them outside the app — as announced by the head of the company, Adam Mosserion its broadcast channel on the network.

Mosseri highlighted that the novelty is initially available only in USA and that only Reels of public Accounts are eligible for download. Additionally, users can disable the ability for third parties to download videos from their account.

The option to download Reels is available in the app’s share tab (with a paper airplane icon). In addition, in the promotional image shared by Mosseri, you can see an Instagram watermark next to the name of the account that created the Reel when downloading it.

As highlighted by TechCruncho TikTokInstagram’s biggest rival short video app, has had this feature for years, which also uses a similar format to attach a watermark to downloaded videos.

As we said, for now the feature is only available to US users, but information from Techlusive realize that it will be available in more markets soon.
