International Rescue Committee: Aid worker killed in air strike in Ethiopia’s Tigray region

NAIROBI, Oct 15 (Archyde.com) – An aid worker was among three people killed in an air strike in the town of Shire in Ethiopia’s northern Tigray region, the International Rescue Committee said on Saturday.

The committee said in a statement that the aid worker, who was working with the committee’s health and nutrition team, died of injuries sustained while providing assistance to women and children on Friday.

The commission said another IRC worker was wounded in the attack, while two civilians were killed and three others wounded.

The attack took place in an area where the Ethiopian government and its ally Eritrea have been fighting intermittently Tigrayan forces for two years.

Ethiopian government spokesman Legis Tulu, military spokesman Colonel Geetnet Adan or Prime Minister Beilin Seyoum’s spokeswoman did not respond to requests for comment on Friday’s incident.
