Iran Retaliates: Targets US/Israel Homes as US Troops Surge to 50K+

Tehran has declared the homes of U.S. And Israeli officials and military commanders legitimate targets, escalating tensions amid a significant U.S. Military buildup in the region. The announcement, made by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Sunday, is presented as retaliation for what Iranian officials claim are repeated strikes on residential buildings within Iran that have resulted in nearly 2,000 civilian deaths over the past month.

According to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, more than 80,000 civilian sites have been damaged or destroyed since February 28, including over 60,000 homes. The IRGC statement explicitly threatened to “begin bombing” the residences of those it considers responsible for the attacks.

The U.S. Department of Defense has responded by reinforcing its presence in the region, adding 3,500 Marines to the existing force of over 50,000 personnel. Further bolstering the U.S. Military posture, another amphibious ready group is reportedly en route, with the possibility of a third aircraft carrier strike group being deployed. These movements have fueled concerns about a potential ground invasion of Iran.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, accused the U.S. Of secretly planning a ground invasion while publicly engaging in negotiations. “Our forces are waiting,” Ghalibaf stated, suggesting Iran anticipates a direct military confrontation.

Simultaneously, diplomatic efforts are underway. Peace talks were held in Islamabad on Sunday, bringing together the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Türkiye, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. Still, these discussions appear to be occurring alongside escalating military preparations.

According to Esmaeil Baqaei, a spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Tehran has received proposals from the United States through mediators but deems them “highly unreasonable.” This assessment suggests a significant gap remains between the positions of the two countries.

The conflict is also expanding beyond direct U.S.-Iran tensions. The Israeli military has stated its readiness for a “multi-front war” following missile attacks launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, who are backed by Iran. This development indicates a broadening of the conflict across the region.

Reports from Tehran indicate explosions were heard across the city amid ongoing bombardment. The IRGC has also threatened to target U.S. And Israeli university campuses in retaliation for alleged strikes on Iranian educational institutions.
