Iranian presidential advisor Mohammad Jamshidi has blamed Israel and the USA for the attack that killed almost 100 people near the grave of General Qassem Soleimani. “Washington says the US and Israel played no role in the terrorist attack in Kerman, Iran. Really?” wrote Jamshidi on X on Wednesday. The “responsibility for this crime” lies “with the US and the Zionist regime and the “Terrorism is just a tool.”

Washington had previously said that it had “no details regarding the bombing and no indication that Israel was involved in the explosion.” A spokesman for the US State Department said that so far the US government had no independent information regarding the possible reasons for the explosions. “It’s still too early, at least for us, to say what the cause might be,” Matthew Miller said in Washington on Wednesday.

According to state media, the attack was carried out with two bombs detonated regarding 15 minutes apart near the Saheb al-Saman Mosque in Kerman, on whose grounds there is the grave of General Qassem Soleimani, who was killed by the US in 2020. Numerous people gathered there on Wednesday on the fourth anniversary of his death. The leadership in Tehran spoke of a “terrorist act”. 95 people were killed.

Soleimani had commanded the Quds Force, the branch of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard responsible for foreign operations. The explosions near his grave came amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.
