Iran’s Reversal of Uranium Enrichment Growth Sparks Concern – IAEA Report

2023-12-26 15:24:29

(Archyde.com, Vienna, 26th) The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations watchdog agency, said today that Iran has reversed months of slowing down the growth of its enriched uranium stockpile and continues to produce enriched uranium close to weapons grade.

Many diplomats believe that Iran’s slowdown, which began before June, was the result of secret talks between the United States and Iran that led to the release of American citizens imprisoned in Iran earlier this year.

According to the theoretical definition of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran has enough 60% enriched uranium to make three nuclear bombs if it is further enriched, and it also has more low-enriched uranium stocks. Iran denies seeking to develop nuclear weapons.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said in a statement that Iran had “increased the production of highly enriched uranium (HEU), reversing the trend of production reductions that began in mid-2023.” The statement summarized a confidential report seen by Archyde.com and provided to member states.
