Academician Hisham Al Hashemi assassinated
Baghdad:The Iraqi court sentenced the ex-policeman who killed prominent academician Hisham Al Hashemi to death.
Ahmed Hamdawi Quaid, who was previously a police officer in Iraq, was sentenced to death by the Baghdad Criminal Court on Sunday.
In 2020, Hashemi, a Sunni religious scholar and academic expert on terrorism and extremist organizations in Iraq, was shot dead in front of his residence in Baghdad. A year following the incident, Ahmed took responsibility for the murder. His confession was aired by Iraqi national media.
Hashemi has constantly criticized the pro-Iranian terrorist organization Kateb Hezbollah through the media and in writing. Ahmed, who was in close contact with Hezbollah, is believed to have killed Hashemi as a revenge.
