A Dublin-based firm has topped the latest list of tax defaulters released by the Revenue Commissioners, with a bill totaling €2.2 million. The list, published this week, includes individuals and companies across a range of sectors, from cryptocurrency trading to e-scooter importing and highlights a continuing focus by the Revenue on identifying and pursuing tax evasion.
The Dublin firm, whose name has not been released by the Revenue, is significantly ahead of other defaulters in terms of the amount owed. Following the firm, several company directors and landlords feature prominently on the list, according to reporting by The Irish Times. The Revenue publishes lists of tax defaulters as part of its efforts to encourage compliance and deter future offenses.
Beyond the substantial corporate debt, the list reveals a diverse group of individuals facing penalties. A cryptocurrency trader and an e-scooter importer are among those named, reflecting the Revenue’s increasing scrutiny of emerging markets and digital assets. A baker, a former undertaker, and a Killorglin-based cryptocurrency investor who settled with Revenue for over €155,000 also appear on the list, as reported by the Irish Examiner and Radio Kerry respectively.
The Revenue Commissioners also identified 23 individuals who had engaged in the ‘misuse’ of green diesel, a lower-taxed fuel intended for agricultural utilize. Agriland reported that these individuals are facing penalties for using the fuel in vehicles not authorized for its use. This represents a significant portion of the cases highlighted in the latest publication.
The publication of the defaulters’ list is a periodic event, and the Revenue Commissioners do not comment on individual cases beyond the information released in the public statement. The list serves as a public record of tax settlements and aims to demonstrate the Revenue’s commitment to enforcing tax laws.
